Project 10073 Record — Sharpsville, Pennsylvania, 11 April 1966

This document contains the Project Blue Book record for a sighting reported in Sharpsville, Pennsylvania, on 11 April 1966. A civilian witness reported observing a single, bright orange, half-round object in the southeastern sky for approximately two and a quarter hours. The witness, who was inside a building at the time, noted that the object appeared to move slightly to the south and made no sound. The witness also provided a sketch of the object and noted that there was light fog or mist in the area. Following an initial letter from the witness on 15 April 1966, Major Hector Quintanilla, Jr., Chief of Project Blue Book, requested that the witness complete an official FTD Form 164 to provide sufficient information for evaluation. Upon review of the completed form and the details provided, the Air Force concluded that the object was the moon, which was in its last quarter phase and positioned in the same area of the sky as the reported object, viewed through atmospheric haze.
