Project 10073 Record — Sighting Report, Bridgeport, New York, 26 January 1966

This document contains the official Project Blue Book record of a UFO sighting reported by two civilian witnesses in Bridgeport, New York, on 26 January 1966. The witnesses, both housewives and wives of USAF staff sergeants, observed a circular object at approximately 23:44Z. They described the object as appearing like the bottom of a half-moon, initially yellow and then turning greyish. The object was estimated to be at 30 degrees elevation in the southeast and was described as having a hazy, 'frothy' appearance, seemingly surrounded by clouds or smoke. The witnesses reported that the object moved toward them and downward before vanishing after about five minutes. The witnesses were in a car at the time of the sighting. The report includes a completed U.S. Air Force Technical Information questionnaire, a sketch of the object's path, and correspondence from Major Hector Quintanilla, Jr., Chief of Project Blue Book, requesting further information. The official conclusion reached by the Air Force was that the object was the moon, noting that the moon was setting in the west at the time and that the witnesses' description of the object's appearance and movement was consistent with an astronomical observation. The report also notes that the Verona test site of the Rome Air Defense Command at Griffiss AFB confirmed there was no test activity in the area at the time.
