PROJECT 10073 RECORD — Ghent, New York, 25 April 1966

This document consists of a Project Blue Book record and a corresponding letter regarding a UFO sighting in Ghent, New York, on April 25, 1966. The witness, a civilian, reported observing a lighted object in the western sky at approximately 11:30 P.M. The witness described the object as having a rectangular shape, approximately 16 by 26 inches in size, with a brilliantly lit half-moon shape in the center. Protruding from this area were spike-like arms of varying lengths, each tipped with a tiny, brilliant light. The witness noted that the object moved very little to the north and remained visible until 12:15 A.M. The witness reported no noise and noted that the weather was clear with bright stars. The witness chose not to report the incident locally to avoid publicity and because they were reassured by a statement in LIFE Magazine regarding the rational explanation of most UFO sightings. The official conclusion recorded by Project Blue Book is that the sighting was an astronomical observation of the moon, noting that the moon was approaching its first quarter and set at 310 degrees azimuth at 0458Z.
