Project 10073 Record — Swansea, Mass, 27 March 1966

This document contains a Project 10073 record regarding a civilian sighting report in Swansea, Massachusetts, on March 27, 1966. A husband and wife reported observing a large, brilliant orange, crescent-shaped object while driving home from Fall River, Massachusetts. The witnesses, prompted by an article in Life magazine about Project Blue Book, wrote to Major Quintanella to describe their experience. They noted that the object appeared to be hovering low in the extreme western sky, near the rooftops of Somerset, Massachusetts, and near the Johnson compound. The witnesses expressed confusion because they had never seen the moon appear in such a manner at midnight. They explicitly stated that the object did not display green lights or flashing colors and that it was in a vertical position. The witnesses observed the object until it slipped over the horizon and disappeared. They also provided a hand-drawn map illustrating the location of the sighting relative to local landmarks, including the Lee River and a boat ramp. The official conclusion recorded by the project is that the object was the moon, which was setting at the time of the observation.
