Expediente Número 801208: Avistamiento de Fenómenos Extraños (Atlántico-Rif)

This document details the investigation and subsequent declassification of a sighting report (Expediente 801208) involving an unidentified object observed on December 8, 1980. The incident involved two Spanish vessels, the Conquistador and the Besugo, operating in the Atlantic-Rif region. According to the reports received via Tarifa Radio Costera and Chipiona Costera, the Conquistador observed an object disintegrating at an altitude of 20 degrees at 20:50 local time, while at a position of 35°27'N and 007°50'W. Shortly before, at 20:45, the fishing vessel Besugo, located at 33°52'N and 008°55'W, reported seeing the same phenomenon, describing it as a passenger aircraft with its left turbine on fire, which then disappeared in a northerly direction towards the sea. The file includes a telegram (Document 0001) from the Lieutenant General of the 2nd Air Region to the Chief of the Air Staff (JEMA) and a sketch of the sighting (Document 0002). In 1995, the Mando Operativo Aéreo (MOA) reviewed the case and determined that there were no aspects requiring the continued classification of the material, leading to its official declassification on November 2, 1995.
