Unusual Light Over Thetis Island

This document is a published sighting report from the Canadian UFO Report (Vol. 2, No. 2, 1971) detailing a series of observations made by Mrs. Gwenyth M. Bazett in May 1970. The witness, located in Chemainus, British Columbia, describes observing an unusual, bright light over the south end of Thetis Island. On the evening of May 3, 1970, at approximately 10:45 p.m., the witness observed a hovering object that appeared as a pinpoint of light before expanding and then shrinking until it vanished, with the event lasting about 20 minutes. The following night, the object reappeared at the same time, hovering for 10 minutes before moving behind trees. Later that same night, the witness observed the object north of Thetis Island, describing it as 'bobbing up and down like a ball' over the treetops. The object reportedly became significantly brighter, eventually appearing like a 'ball of fire' in the gap between Kuper and Thetis Islands. The witness noted that the object appeared again on the next two nights for short durations. Finally, on May 27, the witness observed the object again, noting it was very bright before dimming to a pinpoint and disappearing after 15 minutes. The witness expressed interest in the object's repeated return to the area.
