Bright Light Over Thetis Island

This document is a letter written by Mrs. W.R. Bazett of Chemainus, British Columbia, to the editors of the Canadian UFO Report magazine. The letter, published in the July/August 1969 issue, serves as a personal account of UFO sightings experienced by the author and her husband. Mrs. Bazett expresses her belief that humanity is being visited by a higher intelligence from outer space, citing the maneuverability of these objects as evidence that they are not of terrestrial origin. She recounts several sightings, including incidents that occurred while living in Cobble Hill, where she observed bright yellowish lights that would break into three parts and ascend at high speeds. The primary focus of the letter is a specific sighting on March 22, 1969, at 7 p.m. While sitting at her dining table looking toward Thetis Island, she observed a very bright, yellowish light hovering above the trees. She describes the object as being brighter than the planet Venus. According to her account, the object faded to a tiny dot, moved off to the left at a 90-degree angle, and then disappeared. Shortly thereafter, it reappeared, fluctuating in brightness until it finally vanished. Mrs. Bazett also mentions a subsequent sighting four nights prior to writing the letter, where she observed a bright object hovering over the middle of Thetis Island that moved rapidly before disappearing. She concludes by noting that she contacted a neighbor who also witnessed the first object mentioned in her letter and expresses a hope that other witnesses will come forward with their own accounts.
