Strange Lights Over Nanaimo

This document is a personal account of a UFO sighting in Nanaimo, British Columbia, in 1970. The witness, Wesley Palmer, reports observing lights near Mt. Benson, located four to five miles from his residence. Palmer describes the lights rising to a high altitude and then descending immediately, a display he watched for approximately one hour. He notes that the weather conditions were clear with no obstructions. Upon returning to his room an hour later, he observed for an additional 15 minutes but saw no further activity. He attempted to use field glasses to identify the lights as stars but concluded they were not, due to their changing magnitude. Palmer also includes an account from his brother, who kept watch for 10 minutes while Palmer was away. His brother reported seeing a shimmering white object above the lights, from which vertical red strips emanated. These strips lasted for about 15 seconds before the object vanished and the white light flicked out.
