On January 24, 1969, at 00:34, a journalist and his three sisters observed a light from their home in Madrid. The witness described the object as appearing like a bright star, yellow and reddish in the center, which emitted a sound similar to a sputtering engine. The object moved horizontally at a speed comparable to a jet aircraft. The sighting lasted between one and one and a half minutes. The witness initially believed it was a star because it blinked, but later suspected it was an aircraft. The Spanish Air Force investigated the incident under file number 690124. Meteorological data for Madrid at the time indicated clear skies and calm conditions. The Air Force's intelligence section concluded that the phenomenon did not exhibit any characteristics that would suggest anything other than a jet aircraft in flight. The report notes that the witness, who was described as nervous and having difficulty expressing himself, was informed about the possibility of the object being a jet with its afterburner engaged, a concept he was previously unfamiliar with. He ultimately accepted this explanation. The case was officially declassified on June 23, 1993.
