Project 10073 Record — Brockway, Pennsylvania, May 1967

This document consists of a Project 10073 record and a follow-up correspondence regarding a series of sightings in Brockway, Pennsylvania. A civilian witness and her 15-year-old son reported observing a moving object in the sky, which they described as appearing like a bright star and moving quite rapidly. The sightings began in May 1967 and continued through the summer. The witnesses noted that the object's path varied over time, sometimes traveling from north-west to south-east, and at other times from west to north-east. They expressed curiosity about the nature of the object, questioning why it was seen so often, whether it only orbited the United States, and why its path changed. In a response dated October 13, 1967, Major David L. Stiles of the USAF Office of Information addressed the inquiry. He explained that there were over 1,100 objects in orbit at the time, many visible to the naked eye. He clarified that satellite orbits are determined by their height and that they do not cross the same point on each revolution because of the Earth's rotation. The official conclusion recorded in the Project 10073 file was that the object was a 'Probable (SATELLITE).' The Air Force directed the witness to the 1st Aerospace Squadron at Ent Air Force Base for further information.
