Light Over Victoria — Victoria, BC - August 1, 1966

This document is a personal account of a UFO sighting that occurred in Victoria, British Columbia, on August 1, 1966. The author, inspired by the writings of Edward J. Ruppelt, describes observing an unidentified light in the sky while walking their dog. Upon spotting the light approaching from the southwest, the author enlisted the help of their 14-year-old brother and his 15-year-old friend, who brought binoculars to assist in the observation. Through the binoculars, the witness observed a white light reflecting off the object, which they estimated to be the size of a quarter held at arm's length. The sky was clear, and the moon was visible above the southeastern horizon. Seeking confirmation, the author contacted the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory. The observatory staff reported that they had received another inquiry regarding the same phenomenon and suggested it was likely a satellite, although they had not personally witnessed the object. Approximately one hour later, the author observed what appeared to be the same object moving from east to west, though they assumed it was the same entity seen earlier.
