"EVIL EYE STARING AT ME" - Victoria, BC - February 26, 1966

On the morning of February 26, 1966, at approximately 6:00 a.m., a resident of Victoria, British Columbia, named Mrs. R. Desureau, reported observing an unidentified aerial phenomenon. While outside her residence at 28 Douglas Street to feed her cats, she witnessed what she described as a large, evil-looking ball of fire in the sky. The object featured orange and yellow streaks emanating from its sides and rear. Mrs. Desureau first spotted the object over Beacon Hill Park, noting that it subsequently traveled in an easterly direction toward Seattle. She utilized field glasses to observe the object, reporting that it appeared to diminish in size over the course of a few minutes before disappearing entirely. Mrs. Desureau, who emphasized that she was fully awake at the time of the sighting, compared the object to Jupiter but noted it was unlike anything she had previously seen. Following the report, representatives from the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory and the Victoria Airport weather office reviewed the incident. While they did not confirm the sighting, they provided an alternative explanation, suggesting that the witness may have observed a meteor—defined as stony matter entering the earth's atmosphere from space—which typically burns up before reaching the ground.
