Project 10073 Record — Bloomington, Indiana, 3 July 1966

On July 3, 1966, at approximately 8:30 P.M., a civilian witness in Bloomington, Indiana, observed an unidentified aerial object. The witness, a college teacher with experience in aviation, initially mistook the object for an airplane with landing lights. The object was described as a star-like light that was predominantly white, though it occasionally displayed red and green lights. The witness reported that the object circled the city and then performed a series of tight circles around a radio tower. The object was observed to move in a rocking motion, eventually descending behind trees 'like a falling leaf.' The witness noted that the object made no sound, which contrasted with their experience with local aircraft. Following the sighting, the witness and another individual drove to the radio tower but found no sign of the object. Dr. Hynek, a consultant for the Air Force, interviewed the witness, who confirmed that the object had circled the radio tower six times, taking approximately five seconds for each circuit.
