Project 10073 Record — Greenville, Ohio, February 1966

This document contains a Project Blue Book sighting report regarding an unidentified aerial phenomenon observed near Greenville, Ohio, in February 1966. The witness, a 63-year-old female, reported seeing a long, silver, cigar-shaped object in the western sky for approximately eight minutes. She described the object as not very bright and noted that it appeared to stand still, then seemed to appear and disappear three times, and appeared to be getting smaller. The witness initially observed the object from her kitchen window and subsequently went outside to get a better view. She explicitly stated that she heard no sound. Following her initial letter to the Air Force dated March 23, 1966, Major Hector Quintanilla, Jr., Chief of Project Blue Book, responded on April 5, 1966, requesting that she complete an FTD Form 164 for further evaluation. The witness completed the form on April 12, 1966, providing additional details about the sighting, including her location 3.5 miles north of Greenville on state route 49. The official conclusion reached by the Air Force was that the object was the moon, which was in its last quarter at the time. The analysis suggested that the observer's description of the object as cigar-shaped and its perceived behavior were consistent with the moon's appearance and position in the sky.
