UFO Report — Peru, Indiana, 8 July 1965

On July 8, 1965, at 0330Z, three witnesses—a 19-year-old college student, a 46-year-old housewife, and another 19-year-old student—observed an unidentified object near Peru, Indiana, specifically one mile east of the town on U.S. Highway 24. The witnesses described the object as round and nickel-colored, initially appearing white before shifting to a blue-green hue. The object was observed for approximately 25 minutes, moving from the north toward the southeast, then turning east and accelerating before fading from view. The report was filed by 1st Lt. William R. Bormiley of the 305 Bomb Wing at Bunker Hill AFB. The official conclusion reached by the reporting officer was that the sighting was likely an aircraft. This assessment was based on the fact that two aircraft were conducting penetration maneuvers to Bunker Hill AFB during the time of the sighting, flying in different traffic patterns and performing frequent turns. While the exact timing of these aircraft in relation to the sighting could not be definitively established, the incident was officially categorized as a possible aircraft sighting.
