Project 10073 Record Card — Annandale, Virginia, 11 September 1952

On September 11, 1952, at approximately 1700 hours EST, a Department of Labor executive observed a single, spherical-shaped unidentified object in the vicinity of Annandale, Virginia. The witness, who was traveling south on Columbia Pike in an automobile, observed the object for thirty to forty-five seconds. The object was described as appearing smaller than a dime and was seen flying above and beyond a commercial aircraft (DC4 or DC6) that was heading in a westerly direction. The witness noted that the object appeared to move faster than the commercial aircraft at high altitude, but exhibited no aerodynamic features, trails, or exhaust, and performed no maneuvers. A second individual, identified as Mrs. [illegible], was in the vehicle at the time but did not view the object before it was called to her attention. The report was processed by HQ USAF and forwarded to various commands, including ATIC at Wright-Patterson AFB. Official evaluations concluded that there was insufficient data to determine the nature of the object. Internal notes on the project record card indicate that the report did not follow standard reporting procedures (200-5) and that there were no winds aloft at the time of the sighting.
