Sighting Report - City of HAVA, April 30, 1979

This document is a sighting report issued by COMNAVSECGRU on April 30, 1979, detailing an aerial observation near the City of HAVA. The report describes a bright white light appearing at a bearing of 026 degrees (true north) and an elevation of approximately 15 degrees. During the first minute of observation, the light was noted to be pulsating or fluctuating in brightness at approximately one-second intervals. Over the next two minutes, the object began pulsating in concentric rings of light that flowed from a central source in a rippling, shimmering fashion, diminishing in brightness as they moved away from the source. During the fourth minute, a bluish-green beam of light, described as similar to a searchlight, appeared from the central core of the configuration. This beam extended outward and downward to the left at an angle of approximately 45 degrees, reaching the fade-out point of the radiating rings. Approximately five minutes after the appearance of the bluish-green beam, the radiating circles of light disappeared. Following this, the beam appeared to retract toward the central core, growing broader and stouter as it did so. Finally, the beam and core formed into a nebulous cloud-shaped mass that drifted south on the wind, fading from view after approximately 14 minutes. The report includes atmospheric data recorded during the event, noting a barometer reading of 29.91, a temperature of 83 degrees dry and 78 degrees wet, excellent visibility, and four-tenths cloud cover consisting of stratus and cumulus. Winds were reported as E x N.S. at 12 knots, with an electrical storm forming over the immediate area of the City of HAVA.
