Expediente Número 790206: Avistamiento de Fenómenos Extraños (Aguas de Baleares)

This document details a UFO sighting incident (Expediente 790206) involving the Spanish tanker vessel TAMAMES in the waters of the Balearic Islands on February 6, 1979. At 21:17 local time, the crew observed lights with an upward yellowish-red reflection on the port side of the ship. Initially suspecting a distress signal, the ship altered course to investigate. The vessel's radar did not detect any echoes until 15 to 20 minutes later, when the lights extinguished and the radar screen began displaying intense white flashes, described as similar to a RACON beacon. No radio communication was received on VHF or other frequencies. By 23:50, the radar signals ceased. Later, at 00:45 on February 7, the radar detected a cluster of blurred echoes, including two larger ones, moving in the same direction as the ship but at a slower speed. These echoes persisted for approximately one hour before disappearing, only to reappear at varying distances. By 03:00, no further anomalous echoes were detected. The report concludes that there was no abnormality in the ship's machinery or instruments and that the visibility was good throughout the event. The case was later declassified in 1995 by the Intelligence Officer of the Air Operational Command (MOA), who determined that there were no aspects requiring the maintenance of classified status.
