This document is a declassified intelligence file (Expediente 851223) concerning an Unidentified Aerial Phenomenon (UAP) sighting reported by the crew of the Transmediterránea ship 'Manuel Soto' on December 23, 1985. The incident occurred while the vessel was navigating from Las Palmas to Arrecife in the Canary Islands. According to the ship's log, the 3rd Officer initially observed a light on the horizon, which he first mistook for the star Antares. After verifying the alignment, he ruled out the star and continued to monitor the object. Approximately 15 minutes later, the object moved suddenly toward the ship at high speed, reaching the zenith. The officer described the object as having an intense central white light, a weaker red light nearby, and another separate white light. He noted that the object did not resemble any conventional aircraft or helicopter and produced no sound or humming. The sighting was corroborated by the 2nd Radio Officer, the helmsman, and the deck guard. The file includes correspondence between the Spanish Navy (Armada) and the Air Force (Ejército del Aire) to investigate the event. The Mando Aéreo de Canarias (MACAN) conducted an investigation, which ultimately yielded negative results, finding no evidence of a known object or aircraft. Consequently, the intelligence officer at the Mando Operativo Aéreo (MOA) recommended declassifying the file on January 24, 1996, stating that there were no aspects requiring the information to remain classified.
