Project 10073 Record - Sighting Report, Ontario, California, 28 November 1968

On November 28, 1968, at approximately 1725 hours, a witness named Gary Robert Varner reported observing an unidentified aerial phenomenon while traveling in a 1963 Chevrolet Malibu on Highway 60, roughly 10 miles east of Ontario, California. The witness, who was accompanied by others, described the object as a bright, white light that appeared similar in brightness to the planet Jupiter. The object was initially stationary before moving west at an estimated speed of 600 to 800 miles per hour. The witness noted that the object appeared to rotate every half-second and performed sudden altitude changes. During the 15 to 20-minute observation, the witness reported that three jet-type aircraft circled the object, with one appearing to dive at it before pulling up. The witness stated that the object appeared to outdistance the aircraft. The observer noted that this was the 22nd unidentified object he had sighted in the previous five years.
