"Saucer" Frisks, Hovers in West Kootenay Skies

On Wednesday, October 25, 1967, an unidentified flying object was observed over the community of Greenwood, British Columbia. According to a report by a Vancouver Sun staff reporter, sixteen individuals, including two RCMP officers, witnessed the object hovering in the sky for approximately one hour before it moved rapidly westward and disappeared. Walter Jackson, a 29-year-old heavy equipment operator, observed the object through a 60-power telescope. He described the object as having a metallic bottom and a red top, with a raised cabin-like structure, though he noted no visible windows or lights. To the naked eye, the object appeared to be the size of a dinner plate. Jackson reported that the object initially circled the town before stopping to hover at an altitude of approximately one mile. Another witness, store operator Adrian Hoogers, estimated the object's altitude at 30,000 feet and its location at 70 miles west of Greenwood. Hoogers further described the object as having no exhaust and appearing as a half-moon shape when viewed through a telescope. The local RCMP officers also viewed the object through a telescope but were unable to identify it.
