On 3 March 1967, at approximately 0230Z, a high school student in Nimmons, Arkansas, observed three unidentified objects in the night sky. The witness, who had been alerted by a barking dog, reported seeing a round, saucer-shaped object with a red light. The objects were observed moving toward the north and east, appearing to descend before disappearing from view. The observation lasted for approximately two minutes. The Air Force investigation, conducted by the 97th Bombardment Wing at Blytheville AFB, determined that the sighting coincided with a large-scale military exercise known as 'Barnone.' This exercise involved 26 aircraft, including B-52 bombers and tankers, which departed the base in two waves between 0200Z and 0400Z. Intelligence officers concluded that the witness likely observed these military aircraft, noting that the flight paths of the exercise participants placed them in the vicinity of the sighting. The report also mentions that similar sightings had been reported in the area, including one near Kennett, Missouri, in August 1966, and that both the 340th Bomb Wing and the 97th Air Refueling Squadron had been conducting extensive night training in the region during late February and early March 1967.
