Project Blue Book Sighting Report — Cushing, Wisconsin, February 1967

This document contains a series of incoming Air Force messages and correspondence regarding a UFO sighting reported in Cushing, Wisconsin, in late February 1967. A civilian witness, a 20-year-old woman, reported observing a brightly colored, disc-shaped object in the western sky for approximately 25 minutes. The witness, who used 10x35 power binoculars, stated that the object hovered, appeared to revolve, and emitted blinking, multi-colored lights. Her mother also observed the object. The witness reported that a relative had seen a similar object the previous night. The Air Force conducted an investigation, contacting the Framington Air Route Traffic Control Center, which confirmed there was no aircraft traffic in the area at the time of the sighting. Radar searches at the local unit also yielded no unusual contacts. The official conclusion reached by the Air Force was that the sighting was an astronomical observation of the planet Venus, which was bright and positioned in the western sky at the time. Additionally, investigators noted the presence of a radio tower with a beacon near Sunrise, Minnesota, located approximately 260 degrees from the witness's position, which may have contributed to the observation. The documentation includes standard reporting forms, internal message traffic, and a letter from Colonel James C. Manatt of the Foreign Technology Division requesting further information from the witness to facilitate a scientific evaluation.
