UFO Observation Report — Cincinnati, Ohio, 16 December 1966

This document consists of a U.S. Air Force Foreign Technology Division (FTD) sighting report and a follow-up letter regarding an unidentified aerial phenomenon observed on 16 December 1966 in Cincinnati, Ohio. The witness, a civilian who identified himself as a former World War II flight engineer, reported observing a single, red, cigar-shaped object for approximately five seconds at 0733Z. The witness noted that the object was moving 'very fast' and appeared to be emitting smoke. The observation occurred while the witness was in a car in an open countryside area, moving south at 50 miles per hour. The sky was clear and dry at the time. The witness reported that the object did not make any sound and did not appear to stand still, change shape, or flash. Following the initial report to the Duty Officer at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, the FTD determined that the provided information was insufficient for a formal evaluation. Consequently, on 19 December 1966, Colonel Louis DeGoes, Director of Technology and Subsystems, issued a letter to the witness requesting that he complete and return an attached FTD Form 164 to facilitate further investigation.
