Project 10073 Record — Sighting Report, Cincinnati, Ohio, 4 January 1966

This document is a Project 10073 sighting report concerning an unidentified aerial phenomenon observed in Cincinnati, Ohio, on January 4, 1966. The witness, a civilian with prior military experience as a sonarman and radar watch-stander during the Korean War, reported observing a flickering, star-like object moving across the sky for approximately five minutes at 1833L. The witness noted that the object appeared to stand still at one point and described it as having no sound and no exhaust or vapor trails. The official conclusion reached by the Air Force was that the object was the ECHO I satellite, which was recorded as passing north of Cincinnati at the time of the observation at a 52-degree elevation, heading southeast. The witness completed a detailed U.S. Air Force technical information questionnaire on January 21, 1966, in which they expressed skepticism regarding the adequacy of the questionnaire and offered to provide further assistance or demonstrate the exact location of the sighting if required.
