This document consists of a Project 10073 record and a personal letter detailing a sighting of an unidentified aerial phenomenon on December 9, 1966, in Johnson City, Tennessee. The witness, a civilian, reported observing a bright, flashing, round object in the eastern sky at approximately 8:10 P.M. The object moved slowly toward the southwest. The witness, who was in a friend's backyard, retrieved a 60-power refracting telescope to observe the object, noting that it emitted a bright, whitish light at approximately one-second intervals. After the object disappeared, the witness contacted the radar room at Tri-City Airport. The witness also recounted previous sightings over the past two years, including an incident in early August where a bright flash of light moved across the sky and temporarily blinded the witness and a friend, causing their eyes to water.
