Project 10073 Record — North Babylon, New York, October 1966

This document contains the official Air Force record and correspondence regarding a UFO sighting reported in North Babylon, New York, on the night of October 25-26, 1966. A 19-year-old truck driver, along with three other witnesses (his wife, father, and mother), reported observing three objects in the sky for approximately three hours and thirty minutes. The witnesses described the objects as round, resembling the head of a pin with a halo, and noted that they displayed changing colors (white, red, and blue). The objects were reported to move in a square pattern and, at one point, one object moved across the sky from the southwest to the northeast, leaving a 25-foot trail of blue light and exhaust. The witnesses also reported hearing whistling, humming, and buzzing sounds. The Air Force investigation, led by Major Hector Quintanilla, Jr. of Project Blue Book, concluded that the sighting was consistent with astronomical observations. Specifically, the report notes that Saturn, Altair, Deneb, and Vega were visible in the western sky during the period, and the satellite Echo I was passing over the region at 0504Z. The Air Force correspondence indicates that the initial information provided by the witness was deemed insufficient for evaluation, leading to a request for the completion of FTD Form 164. The internal military message traffic regarding the incident characterizes the report as 'questionable' and notes that the witness claimed the object once came close enough to appear as large as two houses put together.
