Project 10073 Record — Peoria, Illinois, 12 October 1966

This document contains a Project Blue Book sighting report regarding an event that occurred on October 11, 1966, in Peoria, Illinois. The witness, a civilian employee of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, reported observing a brilliant yellow, tubular, elongated light moving very fast across the sky while walking from her garage to her house. The witness estimated the object was approximately three feet long and a few inches thick, traveling at an altitude of about twenty feet above the treetops. The observation lasted approximately two seconds, during which the object moved from the northeast to the southwest before disappearing over the trees. The witness noted that the object made no sound and appeared clearly defined. Although the witness was accompanied by her 12-year-old daughter, the object disappeared before the daughter could be alerted. The witness subsequently reported the event to her supervisor and later submitted a formal questionnaire to the Air Force after reading an article about UFOs in Science News. The official Air Force conclusion, documented on the Project 10073 record, classified the sighting as an 'Astro (METEOR)' event, noting that the description was consistent with a meteor observation.
