UFO Report — Minot Air Force Base, North Dakota, 15 August 1966

On 12 August 1966, at 0535Z, A3C David E. Sutterfield of the 862d Transportation Squadron reported a sighting of eight unidentified objects while working as a taxi dispatcher at the Minot Federal Building in Minot, North Dakota. Sutterfield, who was repairing a vehicle at the time, observed seven yellowish-white, disc-shaped objects moving in formation from north to south, followed by an eighth object. He described the objects as appearing the size of a dime held at arm's length and noted that they moved across the sky in approximately 2-3 seconds, with the final object performing a sideways maneuver. The sighting occurred under clear, dark night conditions. Following the report, an investigation was conducted by the 862nd Combat Support Group. Air traffic control checks with the tower and RAPCON yielded no unusual radar contacts, and other air traffic in the area, including a Frontier CV580 and a C-135, were accounted for. The official conclusion reached by the project was that the objects were meteors, citing that meteors were observed in the Minot area during that time frame.
