Flying Saucer Seen Here?

This article from The Castlegar News, dated June 8, 1966, reports on a series of sightings of an unidentified aerial phenomenon in Castlegar, British Columbia. On the night of June 1, 1966, three residents—Paul Hadikin, Margaret Laktin, and Christine Poznecov—were driving south of the Castlegar Airport at approximately 11:00 p.m. when they observed a strange object hovering above telephone poles along the roadway. The witnesses described the object as oval-shaped, approximately six feet in diameter, and emitting a bluish glow. It featured beams of light pointing both upward and downward. According to the witnesses, the object maintained a parallel course with their vehicle at a speed of 45 mph for a distance of three to four miles. While the witnesses generally agreed on the light beams and the bluish glow, there were discrepancies in their accounts; for instance, Paul Hadikin noted the presence of wings on the object and estimated it remained at least 30 feet away, while the other witnesses did not report wings and felt the object came close enough to touch. The object reportedly disappeared when the group reached the Brilliant Bridge and a second automobile appeared. A separate sighting was reported by L.V. Campbell, who observed a strange object hovering over the Lion's Head at approximately midnight that same night. Campbell described the object as having a bright light at one end and a duller light at the other before it disappeared over the mountain.
