Project 10073 Record — Tangent, Oregon, 8 December 1965

On the evening of December 8, 1965, a civilian witness residing in Linn County, Oregon, observed an unusual phenomenon. The witness initially noticed a red glare on the horizon north of Lebanon, which they compared to the appearance of a setting sun. After this glare disappeared, the witness went outside and observed a large, luminous white donut-shaped object. At the same time, a large shining luminous loop appeared in the opposite direction, accompanied by smaller luminous loops in the area. The witness reported that the donut-shaped object moved eastward and eventually reached a high altitude, later moving in a southwesterly direction. The observation concluded after a dense fog moved into the area, and the object was no longer visible by the next morning. The witness expressed frustration that the event was not reported in local papers and challenged the Air Force to explain the nature of the object, stating they did not believe it was hostile or armed. The Air Force, through Major Hector Quintanilla, Jr. of Project Blue Book, responded on January 11, 1966, stating that the initial report provided insufficient data for a formal evaluation and requested that the witness complete an FTD Form 164 for further analysis.
