This document collection consists of correspondence and a formal Project 10073 record regarding five UFO sightings reported by a civilian in Laredo, Texas, in late 1965. The civilian witness, having initially reported sightings to a Lt. Sutton at Laredo Air Force Base, was instructed to contact Washington. Upon finding that Lt. Sutton had been transferred, the witness wrote directly to the Air Force Systems Command (AFSC) at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base on December 22, 1965, seeking an evaluation of their observations. The specific report detailed in the Project 10073 record (Report #4) describes an object observed on October 10, 1965, at 7:15 PM. The witness reported an object appearing from 340 degrees with no sound, featuring two unblinking lights—one green and one white—spaced about the width of a jet wing. The object reportedly traveled at approximately 600 mph, made a turn to the Southeast at a 135-degree heading, and eventually disappeared. The witness noted that no body or fuselage was discernible. The Air Force evaluation, dated January 14, 1966, and signed by Colonel Eric T. de Jonckheere, concluded that the five reports could be attributed to aircraft or meteors. Regarding the specific visual characteristics described, the Air Force suggested that the presence of red rotating beacons on many military and civilian aircraft could account for the observations.
