Project 10073 Records — Indianapolis, Indiana (September 1965)

This document contains records from Project 10073 regarding unidentified aerial phenomena reported in Indianapolis, Indiana, during September 1965. The first incident, occurring on 6 September 1965, involved a civilian report of a bright red object with approximately 10 separate lights. The observer noted the object moved north, paused for 10 seconds, and then disappeared. This case was initially evaluated as an aircraft, pending further documentation. A subsequent series of reports occurred between 20 and 21 September 1965, involving a civilian witness who reported seeing lights similar to stars moving across the sky. Major Hector Quintanilla, Jr., Chief of Project Blue Book, investigated these reports and concluded they were artificial satellites. Major Quintanilla contacted the witness, who spoke broken English, and provided her with the schedules for the Echo and Pegasus satellites to explain the sightings. The witness was satisfied with this explanation. The file includes correspondence from Major Quintanilla requesting a drawing of the 6 September object, as well as a completed U.S. Air Force technical information questionnaire regarding that specific sighting.
