Sighting Report — Oil City, Pennsylvania, 15 May 1965

On May 15, 1965, a 14-year-old student from Oil City, Pennsylvania, observed an unidentified object in the sky between Oil City and Franklin. The witness, who expressed a strong interest in aviation and a desire to become a U.S. Air Force officer, used a telescope with 60x magnification to observe the object. The witness described the object as traveling from West to East, exhibiting irregular speed by speeding up and slowing down. The object was described as silver with a black stripe down the center, resembling a Lockheed F-104 Starfighter. The observation lasted approximately 45 seconds before the object disappeared behind a jet stream. Following the advice of his mother, the witness contacted local authorities, including Civilian Defense, the State Police, and the Air Force Reserve, before ultimately writing to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. The Foreign Technology Division (FTD) evaluated the report and concluded that the sighting was likely an F-104 aircraft, noting that the reported irregular speed was likely an illusion.
