Executive Referral on UFOs - Bedford, Ohio

This document consists of a series of records regarding a UFO sighting report from Bedford, Ohio, dated May 6, 1965. A group of boys reported seeing 'quite a few' UFOs and subsequently wrote a letter to President Lyndon B. Johnson expressing their concerns about whether the objects were friendly and suggesting that the United States should attempt to make friends with them. The Air Force processed this inquiry as an executive referral. The official Air Force response, drafted by Mrs. Hunt, explains that the investigation of unidentified flying objects in the United States is the responsibility of the Air Force under Project Blue Book. The response states that after 16 years of investigation, there is no evidence that UFOs represent extraterrestrial vehicles or pose a threat to the United States, attributing sightings instead to atmospheric conditions or meteoric activity. The Air Force included a copy of FTD Form 164 for the witnesses to complete, but the form was never returned, leading to a final conclusion of 'Insufficient Data for Evaluation'.
