UFO Observation, 30 Apr 65, Richardson, Texas

This document file contains correspondence regarding a UFO sighting reported by two 14-year-old boys in Richardson, Texas, on April 30, 1965. The witnesses described observing a whitish-silver, cigar-shaped object, approximately 30 to 40 feet long and 15 to 20 feet wide, hovering at an altitude of about 1,000 feet. According to the report, the object moved in a jerky fashion, hovered, and then sped away at an estimated 1,000 miles per hour. The witnesses, who identified themselves as Boy Scouts, emphasized that their report was not a hoax or an optical illusion, noting that the sky was clear and there was a stiff south-easterly wind. The sighting lasted for more than two minutes. The report was directed to Project Blue Book at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. Major Hector Quintanilla, Jr., Chief of Aerial Phenomena at the Foreign Technology Division, reviewed the initial letter and determined that it lacked sufficient information to reach a valid conclusion. Consequently, the Air Force requested that the witnesses complete and return FTD Form 164 to facilitate a proper evaluation of the incident.
