Gallagher's Canyon UFOs

In July 1963, brothers Carl and George Steiger were camping at Gallagher's Canyon, British Columbia, when they experienced a series of unexplained phenomena. While Carl was awake at approximately 1:00 AM, he observed a compass on their Volkswagen van's engine housing moving erratically. Shortly after, he noticed five or six white, basketball-sized lights floating near a creek. When he shouted at them, the lights extinguished. Subsequently, a much larger, bright object appeared, flying above the trees. This object pulsated, shifting between dark and light green, and emitted enough light to illuminate the ground clearly. The object traveled from southwest to northeast, following the canyon, and was observed by both brothers. It eventually moved toward Black Mountain, spiraled around a fire lookout tower, and then accelerated rapidly into the sky. The following morning, the brothers discovered an eight-foot-wide burned ring in the grass near an abandoned log house, with an unburned center and dehydrated, leaning grass. The witnesses did not report the incident to authorities at the time, fearing social stigma, though Carl mentioned it to a science teacher who could not explain the event.
