Project 10073 Record Card — Craig, Colorado, 29 July 1963

On July 29, 1963, a city patrolman and deputy sheriff in Craig, Colorado, reported observing an unidentified aerial phenomenon. The witness, a U.S. Navy veteran, first observed an object appearing to burn up upon entering the atmosphere at 3:34 AM while traveling in a northerly direction, noting bright blue-green flames. Approximately 14 minutes later, at 3:48 AM, the witness observed a flashing blue-green light in the pre-dawn sky, also moving in a northerly direction. The witness described the light as pulsating every five seconds and noted that it appeared to be at an extreme altitude, similar to a satellite. The witness attempted to use binoculars to observe the object but was unable to relocate it upon returning outside. The witness explicitly stated that they did not want the report to be considered a 'flying saucer' or 'hoax' report, but rather a helpful observation. The report was initially sent to NASA and subsequently forwarded to the U.S. Air Force. The Foreign Technology Division evaluated the report and concluded that the object was an aircraft with a strobe light at extreme altitude, noting that the duration and speed were consistent with this analysis.
