The witness, a 1st Lieutenant from the 15th Air Transport Squadron, observed the object while flying in a C-124 aircraft at an altitude of 20,998 feet. The location of the sighting was approximately 600 miles East of Cherry Point, North Carolina, northwest of Bermuda. The witness described the object as a round, bluish-white entity, roughly the size of a basketball, which featured a white beam extending toward the horizon. The object was observed for ten minutes and appeared to move from the northwest to the southeast before disappearing. The report includes a hand-drawn diagram illustrating the object's trajectory relative to the aircraft. Following the report, an investigation by the Air Technical Intelligence Center (ATIC) concluded that the sighting was likely a rotating beacon from a U.S. Atlantic Weather Station. The investigator noted that facility checks confirmed the presence of such a station in the area, and that these beacons are known to be visible over long distances, providing a logical explanation for the observed light and beam.
