UNIDENTIFIED FLYING OBJECT Sighted by [Name Redacted] near La Veta, Colorado, 25 November 1955

This document is a Special Inquiry report from the 14th District Office of Special Investigations, dated January 25, 1956, concerning an unidentified flying object sighting reported by a Colorado State Senator. The Senator reported that on November 25, 1955, at approximately 1030 hours, he observed an object in the vicinity of La Veta, Colorado. He described the object as being shaped like a dirigible, slightly barrel-shaped, with a large front end and tapering toward the tail. The object was greenish-blue in color, appeared luminous, and seemed to be made of a jelly-like substance. It made no sound and left no exhaust or trail. The Senator estimated the object was at an elevation of 15,000 feet above sea level, traveled about ten miles, and disappeared over Mt. Mestas. He estimated the duration of the sighting to be five seconds and the speed to be about one-half the speed of a meteorite. The weather conditions were reported as having an unlimited ceiling with no clouds or thunderstorms. The report also documents a separate interview conducted by Special Agent Leonard F. Reddish with a couple from Walsenburg, Colorado, who reported seeing a different object on December 1, 1955. This second object was described as white, shaped like a cigarette, and leaving a vapor trail. The report concludes with the classification of the document under AFR 205-1.
