Project 10073 Record Card and Air Intelligence Information Report — Keflavik Airport, Iceland, 4 May 1955

On May 4, 1955, at approximately 1338Z, Lt. Colonel Edward J. Stealy and 1st Lt. Joseph W. Burt of the 57th Fighter Interceptor Squadron observed approximately ten unidentified objects while at Keflavik Airport, Iceland. The witnesses were on the ramp at the terminal when they spotted the objects at an estimated altitude of 25,000 to 30,000 feet. The objects were described as round, oxidized silver in color, and roughly the size of a penny from the observers' perspective. They appeared almost translucent with a white cast. The objects were not in formation and exhibited very erratic motions and great speed, estimated to be well over 1,000 knots. One of the objects left a small smoke trail for about two seconds before disappearing behind cloud cover. The witnesses noted that the objects did not resemble jet aircraft and made no sound. The observation lasted between five and eight seconds. The incident was documented in an Air Intelligence Information Report (IR 1-55) and a Project 10073 record card. The official conclusion for the sighting was 'UNIDENTIFIED'.
