Project 10073 Record Card — Travis County, Texas, 30 April 1955

On 30 April 1955, at 1330Z, a qualified Air Force intelligence officer with approximately ten years of experience in fighter organizations observed an unidentified aerial phenomenon in Travis County, Texas. The witness, located at Hurst Creek Lake (30°25'N, 97°58'W), reported seeing four black, round objects, each appearing to be the size of a pencil eraser held at arm's length. The objects were flying in a cluster and traveled from west to east across a wide angle of the sky. The sighting lasted only 2-3 seconds. The observer noted that a 'shooshing' sound accompanied the objects, which initially drew his attention. The observer remarked that the speed of the objects was three times that of a low-flying jet, yet when they passed overhead, no sound was audible. Weather conditions at the time included broken low strata clouds at 1500 feet and 10-mile visibility. The incident was documented on a Project 10073 Record Card and a UFOB Index Card. Official records indicate that the objects remained 'UNIDENTIFIED.' Ultimately, the case was not investigated further, as the official comments state that the brevity of the sighting combined with a delay in the forwarding of the preliminary report precluded an authorized investigation.
