Project 10073 Record — East Brunswick, New Jersey, August 1968

This document contains a sighting report and related correspondence regarding an unidentified aerial phenomenon observed in East Brunswick, New Jersey, on August 28, 1968. The witness, a 17-year-old civilian, reported observing five white and red lights that appeared like stars, but brighter. The objects were observed for 10 to 15 minutes, moving from the northeast to the north. The witness noted that the objects maintained a consistent distance from one another, with the exception of the first two, which were positioned vertically. The witness described the objects as having two gray circles around each. During the observation, the witness reported experiencing physical symptoms, including a rapid heart rate and difficulty breathing, and noted that a dog in a nearby parked car was howling. The witness also observed an airplane to their left, which they stated looked completely different from the observed objects. The Air Force, in a letter dated September 4, 1968, signed by Major James H. Aikman, informed the witness that without additional information, they could not offer an explanation. The official conclusion recorded in the Project 10073 file is that there was insufficient data for evaluation, noting that the sighting of point light sources did not meet the definition of a UFO as established by regulation 80-17.
