UFO Observation Report — Athens, Ohio, April 1969

The witness complied, providing detailed descriptions of two separate sightings occurring at approximately 2000 and 2110 hours. The witness described a star-like main object that was red and yellow, accompanied by a disc-like object that darted around it. The witness estimated the size as three-quarters of a match head at arm's length and noted that the objects moved off over the eastern horizon. The official conclusion recorded on the form suggests the sighting was likely a balloon, specifically a garment bag or air balloon. However, the file also contains a handwritten letter from the witness dated April 19, 1969, in which they regretfully inform the Air Force that the entire report was a hoax and that they were the victim of a prank.
