Project Blue Book Sighting Report — Denver, Colorado, June 1966

In December 1966, a 36-year-old male witness submitted a report to the Project Blue Book Information Center regarding a UFO sighting that occurred in Denver, Colorado, in June 1966. The witness, who identified himself as an aviation enthusiast, was driving home with his wife around 9:00 PM when they observed a large, fiery red ball traveling from west to east at an estimated altitude of 1,000 to 2,800 feet. Initially, the witness suspected the object was a private aircraft in distress, estimating its speed at approximately 200 mph. As they moved closer, the object slowed significantly, began a nearly vertical descent, and glowed a brilliant red. The witness noted that the object made no sound, which he found unusual given his familiarity with aircraft. After turning onto Wadsworth Avenue, the witness observed the object move rapidly toward the northeast before disappearing when its red glow suddenly extinguished. The witness attempted to track the object for two miles but was unable to keep pace. Despite checking news media and making inquiries, the witness found no other reports of the sighting or aircraft activity in the area. The official evaluation by the Aerospace Studies Institute at Maxwell AFB concluded that there was insufficient data to evaluate the incident, primarily due to the lack of an exact date for the event.
