07-20, lördag, Överkalix (TT), nr 17

This document is a press report from the Swedish news agency TT, dated July 20, 1946, regarding an incident that occurred on the previous Friday in upper Norrland. Two witnesses, a construction worker named Knut Lindbäck and an 18-year-old domestic worker named Beda Persson, both residents of the village of Kölmjärv, observed an object approximately a couple of meters in length flying over the forest edge and crashing into the lake of the same name. Following the sighting, Lindbäck traveled to the lake by bicycle and attempted to locate the object by boat, but was unable to see anything because the water had become muddied. He reported that the impact caused a water cascade, which was followed by a second water column shortly thereafter. As of Saturday afternoon, the military had not yet conducted a detailed investigation of the site. Appended to the report is a directive from the Swedish Defense Staff (Försvarsstaben) addressed to the editors. The Defense Staff urgently requested that the TT report regarding the projectile impact not be published. If publication were to proceed, they instructed that the specific location name, Kölmjärv, be removed and replaced with the more general geographic term 'sydöstra Norrbotten' (southeastern Norrbotten).
