A 12-year-old observer reported seeing a brown, ball-shaped object approximately 8 feet in diameter with a flashing light. The observer initially mistook the object for an airplane but noted its odd flight path and the lack of sound. The official conclusion for this specific sighting was that it was a 'probable balloon,' possibly a weather balloon or a garment bag hot air balloon, noting the presence of numerous aircraft in the area. The file also includes a Command Post Controller's log from October 25, 1969, which details a separate, more significant radar-tracked event. In this second incident, a UFO was tracked on radar at Wink, Texas, moving at 2500 knots before stopping and fading out near Salt Flats, New Mexico. A subsequent report from the Zuni, New Mexico Flight Service Station described a UFO low to the surface with oscillating lights, moving in any direction, and lacking visible shape or form. The log notes that no aircraft were reported in the area during the latter sighting.
