Project 10073 Record: UFO Observation, 28 August 1968

This document contains a Project 10073 record regarding a UFO sighting reported by a student in Athens, Ohio, on August 28, 1968. The observer, a ninth-grade student at Athens High School, reported observing three disc-shaped objects in a triangular formation for approximately ten minutes. According to the witness, the objects were self-illuminating, appeared solid, and were silver, blue, and orange in color. The witness described the objects hovering, coming together, separating, and throwing off a ball of flame before turning red and speeding off toward the east and then the south. The witness also claimed to have taken photographs of the phenomenon. The Air Force, specifically the Aerial Phenomena Office (Project Blue Book) under Lt. Col. Hector Quintanilla, Jr., contacted the witness to request the completion of an AF Form 117 and the submission of the original negatives or Polaroid prints. However, the administrative record notes that the initial Form 117 sent to the observer was returned in relation to a different sighting date (September 25, 1968), leading to a conclusion of 'Other (CONFLICTING DATA)' for the case.
