Project 10073 Record: UFO Observation, 21 June 1968

This document contains the Project Blue Book record for a UFO sighting reported by a 13-year-old student in Walbash, Illinois, on 21 June 1968. The witness, who was interested in astronomy and aeronautics, reported two separate sightings in the early morning hours. The first occurred at 3:45 AM and the second at 4:30 AM. The witness provided conflicting information in their report, initially stating the duration was 25 seconds, but later claiming in an AF Form 117 questionnaire that the sighting lasted 20 minutes. The witness also provided conflicting accounts of the object's direction of travel, stating it moved South in one instance and West in another. The witness described the object as an egg-shaped light with a blue center and a dual flame that bobbed back and forth. They observed the object through 7-power binoculars. The witness also noted that they were attempting to use a 75-power telescope on a 4-foot tripod when they realized the object was moving. The Air Force investigation, led by Lt. Colonel Hector Quintanilla, Jr., concluded that the observers were likely watching satellites. However, due to the significant discrepancies in the witness's statements regarding time, duration, and direction, the case was officially categorized as 'Other (Conflicting Data).'
