UFO Observation Report — Garden City, Michigan, 14 February 1968

The primary witness, a civilian, reported observing a solid, self-luminous silver light that appeared brighter than any star. The object traveled from the West to the East-Southeast, stopped for approximately one minute and five seconds, and then ascended vertically before disappearing among the stars. The witness, who was with two other individuals, initially suspected the object might be an airplane or a balloon but ruled these out after observing it through binoculars. The witness contacted Selfridge AFB and Metro Airport, both of which reported no aircraft in the area at the time. The Air Force subsequently sent the witness an AF Form 117 to complete for a formal investigation. The official conclusion reached by the Aerial Phenomena Office (Project Blue Book) was that the object was the ECHO II satellite, which was in the vicinity at the time of the observation.
